Over the course of the programme we were able to deliver a project in partnership with CAHMS. CAHMS is the young people’s pathway for those struggling with their mental health and wellbeing in the Oxfordshire area, and their services are over-subscribed. The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services is the name for NHS-provided services in the United Kingdom for children, generally until school-leaving age, who are having difficulties with their emotional well-being or are deemed to have persistent behavioural problems. Through our programme, we were able to support some of the young people waiting for treatment by providing them with other means to get the help that they need.

“We are really grateful to be able to offer this anxiety and walking programme. It was a different way of us working with these young people, and we found that the symptoms they were experiencing were reduced dramatically as a result of them attending the programme, I had 8 new referrals who said yes to this programme straight away as it was off site in the beautiful grounds of the arboretum and provided a chance for young people to truly engage in nature.”

Sarah Steel from CAHMS

“This funding has come at a great time when we wanted to get more young people out into the grounds and more generally into nature. We also plan on running an older adults walking group in the New Year.”
